Life is crazy sometimes, you just never know whats around the next bend. In life there are good days and bad days. I have been working really hard at finding joy and happiness in the little things.
Lately for me I do not feel like my normal self, my accident has affected my everyday thoughts and actions. Being happy isn’t as easy at it used to be. So I have come up with simple ways of making my day happier and more positive.
Make your Bed ~
I know it sounds silly, it is just me and my husband, and he always makes fun of me for getting out of bed and instantly making the bed. He reasons, no one is coming over, so why bother. I personally get a charge out of pulling the sheets tight and fluffing the pillows to make sure each pillow goes in the right spot.
A comedian, once said “my wife has so many pillows on our bed that when people come over, does she think, that the guest will think, ‘Wow they must be successful because they have so many pillow?'” It made me laugh because I can never have too many decorative pillows. It’s my guilty pleasure. If I start the day with a made bed, depending on how I am feeling, I at least know I got one chore done today. This time of year I have my summer bedding out. Yes, I have bedding for all seasons.
Everyday we have something we can smile about. Try to wake up and think of one positive thing. For me some days, it may be a material possession, like I love my new Alexa. She makes me smile “Alexa, what is the weather going to be like today?” She gives me someone to talk to.
Other days, I am grateful that the sun is shining, or I get to pick my niece up from school. Smiling is contagious, smile at the teacher, or the other parents waiting to pick up there kids. Smile at the lady at the grocery store. You never know what people are going through, they may be sick and not look like they are. I am home a lot now during my healing process, and I find it funny when something makes me giggle. It’s okay to giggle alone. That alone will make you Smile.
Say Thank You ~
Call me old fashion but I still am one of those girls that like to write a card and send it in the mail. Lately, I have had a lot of support and random acts of kindness sent my way. Take the time to write how much that meant to you. “Thank you for making that yummy dinner when I was sick.” If you say “thank you”, you know you made someone smile when they went to their mailbox, and have a card from ‘YOU’. It’s another way to show we care about others.
Change negative thinking~
This is a work in progress. Lately, I have had so much alone time, it is easy to feel sorry for yourself. I have focused on finding the positive in each and every day. The dishes may have not been washed but at least I got the clothes folded and put away, or vice versa. I am not a failure that I did NOT do all the chores. I used to be a perfectionist, and before my accident I would feel like a failure if my house was not always spotless. So now I am grateful for what I got done and not depressed on what I did not finish. Our homes and our organization skills do not have to be perfect 100% of the time. After all there is always tomorrow.
I’ll think about that tomorrow…after all…for tomorrow is another day – Scarlett O’Hara
End each day with a hand written grateful~
My dear friend Adrianna got me inspired to do this, she did it everyday for 1 whole year and ended up with 365 positive things. Her sister bound her 365 grateful’s in a book, now its a coffee table book. Some days may be easier to find a grateful while other days may be harder, but we always have something that were happy for. I love clean sheets! I love working in the yard! I love having a family that is there for me whenever I need them. I love the smell of fresh Basil. You get the idea! So just before lights out, keep a book by your bed and write what made you happy that day.
So in closing, the sun is starting to come out, it’s easier to get the needed fresh air, plant a few flowers, have a friend over for a glass of wine. We’re all trying to do our best to survive.
Lets get Happy together and never forget to be Kind!
