If you have been following us for awhile you will have seen our 3 Easy Vegan Sauces post. It’s where I make 3 sauces with one food processor for easy clean up. The Tzatziki recipe here is the last sauce I make before clean up.
The base of your classic tzatziki sauce is greek yogurt, but that isn’t very vegan. I have tried to make this recipe with soaked cashews instead of vegan mayo, but I really like the easiness of the vegan mayo. It doesn’t compare to your Best Food’s Mayo, but it’ll do. I don’t like to use the vegan mayo as a sandwich spread, but I do like to use it for a dressing or sauce.
Have ever heard of this lovely little store called TRADER JOE’S? They have the best, cheapest vegan mayo. I highly recommend it. Just sitting here typing, I’m thinking of all of my favorite vegan things from Trader Joe’s. I think I’m going to have to create a post just on that.
The first time I made this sauce was when I was having the Falafel from Trader Joe’s. I put it in a pita with hummus and covered it all with this tzatziki. It was great. The other night I put this sauce over a lovely green salad and it made my salad so bright and delicious. You can also use it as a dip for veggies.
Vegan Greek Tzatziki Sauce
It doesn't have to be vegan, you could use greek yogurt instead of vegan mayo
- 3/4 cup Vegan Mayo
- 2 cloves Garlic Rough Chopped
- 1/2 cucumber grated
- 1/2 Fresh squeezed Lemon
- 1 Tbsp Fresh Dill* Finely Chopped
- 1 Tbsp Fresh Mint Finely Chopped
- Salt and Pepper To Taste
- 1/4 cup Almond Milk (optional) Soy, Hemp, or Coconut Milk would work too
Add all ingredients to food processor or blender and mix. Occasionally pulsing to get garlic finely chopped.
Add "Milk" if sauce is to thick. Salt and pepper to taste
*If you don't have fresh dill use dried, just make sure to not use as much as fresh. I would cut amount in half.
You can always add more dill or mint if you’d like. I have even added a little pesto to this recipe because I just love pesto. I have a Vegan Basil Pesto recipe here if you need it.
